Applicants should be aware that professional licensing agencies and prospective employers frequently require similar criminal history disclosures and background checks, although convictions do not necessarily disqualify someone from licensure or employment. Applicants with criminal convictions should recognize that such convictions may impede eventual licensure or employment and that the University of Indianapolis cannot predict future decisions of licensing agencies or employers.
Application Procedures
1. Please allow ample time to complete the application process. Allow your schools and recommenders adequate time to prepare transcripts and recommendations, and allow extra mailing time.
2. Applications must be completed by October 1. Top applicants are invited to campus for an admission interview in December.
3. Additional requirements for International applicants.
4. Admission interviews are offered to candidates possessing superior academic records and diverse experiences including the investigation of many aspects of physical therapy, as described in their personal statements. Applicants who will complete 94 or more credit hours of undergraduate work at the University of Indianapolis and who fulfill all other eligibility requirements receive additional consideration in the admissions process.
5. Admission Committee Procedures
A. Complete applications are processed in the order received. Because we generally receive many applications in the week prior to the application date, acknowledgement of applications can take several weeks. We encourage applicants to apply in advance of the application deadline.
B. In reviewing applications, the following weights are assigned: GRE 36%, prerequisite GPA 20%, cumulative GPA 13%, recommendation forms 9%. This is used to determine which candidates will be invited to an admission interview.
C. An interview is offered to top candidates and is worth 22% in the admission decision. The interview is scored on a point system based upon the applicant’s personal and professional demeanor as well as his or her knowledge of the physical therapy profession. Interviewed applicants are either admitted, placed on a waiting list, or denied admission. This admission decision is based on the admission interview, prerequisite and overall GPA, GRE scores, and recommendations.
D. Applicants who are on the wait list are contacted if spaces become available.
6. Unsuccessful candidates often wish to know why they were not admitted and what they can do to improve their chances of admission in subsequent years. Unsuccessful applicants may sometimes improve their chances for admission in a subsequent year by improving their prerequisite GPA or by retaking key courses, improving GRE scores, enhancing their understanding of the profession through work or volunteer services in health care settings, and participating in activities that develop leadership and communication skills. Applicants must recognize that following these suggestions does not in any way guarantee admission for future years.
