Admission Requirements

 

Admission to the program is competitive, with two to three applicants for each space in the program. The following are required for consideration for admission:

  • Cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher and evidence that you will complete a bachelor’s degree at any accredited college or university by the time you enter the program, or evidence that you are a University of Indianapolis undergraduate eligible to apply for admission after three years of undergraduate study.
  • General aptitude test of the Graduate Record Examination of the Educational Testing Service, CN 6000, Princeton, NJ 08541-6000. The computer-based examination is offered frequently throughout the year. The institution code for the University of Indianapolis is R1321 followed by R0619 for the Krannert School of Physical Therapy.
  • Three recommendations, including one from a physical therapist.
  • Completion of the following prerequisite coursework with a grade of at least a C in each course and a minimum prerequisite GPA of 3.0 (B). Courses taken on a pass-fail basis or any noncourse credit will not count for prerequisites.
    • Chemistry: Standard one-year chemistry sequence with labs, 6 to 8 semester hours.
    • Physics: Standard one-year physics sequence with labs, 6 to 8 semester hours.
    • Biological and Related Sciences
      • Biology: One general biology course with lab, 3 to 4 semester hours. Acceptable courses include, but are not limited to, microbiology, biochemistry, pathology, genetics, histology.
      • Human Anatomy: This requirement can be met with a year-long sequence combining human anatomy and physiology (6 to 8 semester hours), by a single course in human anatomy (3 to 4 semester hours), or by a vertebrate morphology course if human anatomy is unavailable at your institution.
      • Human Physiology: this requirement can be met with a year-long sequence combining human anatomy and physiology (6 to 8 semester hours), by a single course in human physiology (3 to 4 semester hours), or by an animal physiology course if human physiology is unavailable at your institution.
    • Behavioral Sciences: Two courses (6 semester hours) emphasizing human interactions in some way. Acceptable courses are usually in the areas of psychology, sociology, or cultural anthropology.
    • Statistics: One introductory course, 3 to 4 semester hours, to include central tendency, variability, correlation, and parametric statistics through analysis of variance. This course should be taken through the Math or Science department.
    • Communication:
      • English composition: one course, 3 semester hours. This course should increase the student’s ability to write clear, organized, and vigorous expository prose with attention to the mechanics of English and correct grammatical forms.
      • Computer Literacy: Applicants must be familiar with the use of computers at home, on the job, or in school

Applications are available online. Applications must be completed by October 12. Because the University of Indianapolis is a private institution, state of residence does not affect admissions decisions. Applicants who have completed 90 or more undergraduate hours at the University of Indianapolis receive additional consideration in the admission process.
