Emily Slaven is an assistant professor. She teaches in the areas of orthopedics and manual therapy in the professional Doctor of Physical Therapy program and in the postprofessional program. Completing a fellowship in Manual Orthopedic Therapy at Duke University Medical Center in 2010, Emily had the opportunity to expand her clinical skills through the support of the fellowship faculty and the resources available to her at Duke. Emily is a board-certified clinical specialist in orthopedic physical therapy. She is a member of the American Physical Therapy Association (APTA) and has held multiple leadership positions in the Indiana Chapter of the APTA. Currently, she serves as a member of the Practice and Service Subcommittee of the APTA. Emily is also a member of the American Academy of Orthopedic Manual Therapists and the McKenzie Institute. Emily’s research interest focuses on lower limb mechanics following joint arthroplasty. Though her work with the Biomechanics Department at Ball State University and the K Michael W. Krzyzewski Human Performance Lab at Duke University, she has presented papers and published articles relating to lower limb joint mechanics. Her dissertation, ‘Prediction of Functional Outcome Six Months Following Total Hip Arthroplasty’, looked to identify those patients who had functional limitations and a possible need for physical therapy following hip replacement. |
