Bill Staples is an assistant professor. He was named to the Specialist Academy of Content Experts and to the Geriatric Specialty Council. Staples is chair of the American Board of Physical Therapy Specialists and is also on the Board of Directors, Geriatric Section, of APTA. Bill has been elected as the President for the APTA Section on Geriatrics and will take office at CSM 2012.

Bill has lectured nationally regarding reimbursement and Medicare rules and regulations and remains a consultant to local and national therapy corporations. He maintains his clinical skills providing home health care with major clinical interests in the areas of balance and falls, care of the frail elderly, and osteoporosis. Bill and Dr. Jacquie Wall were awarded a research grant in 2012 for development of a new scale to measure fear of falling in older adults.

The APTA Section on Geriatrics awarded Bill the 2006 Distinguished Educator Award for Setting an Exceptional Example as an Educator. At the 2009 Combined Sections Meeting (CSM), Bill was awarded the Joan Mills Award for Outstanding Service to the Geriatric Section of APTA. The President's Award was given to Bill for "Exceptional Service to the Section on Geriatrics" at CSM 2010.
