Kathy Martin is an Assistant Professor and Director of the Professional Doctor of Physical Therapy program. Dr. Martin teaches
the pediatric component of the curriculum in the professional program.
She has a broad clinical background that includes outpatient orthopedics
and sports medicine, geriatrics, home health and pediatrics with
an emphasis on early intervention (0-3 years). Dr. Martin has a
special interest in therapeutic horseback riding for children. She
is a NARHA (North American Riding for the Handicapped Association)
registered Therapeutic Riding Instructor and is registered with
the American Hippotherapy Association. Dr. Martin has published
a case study on the use of hippotherapy (therapy on horseback) with
a child with cerebral palsy. She is also a member of the APTA Pediatric
section and the NATA. Research interests include pediatric orthotics
and children with hypotonia.

Constance McCloy is an Associate
Professor with a joint
appointment in the Center for Aging and Community in the
Krannert School of Physical Therapy. Her doctoral degree
is in Health Promotion with an emphasis in gerontology
and nutrition, and her master’s degree is in Athletic
Training. Dr. McCloy was an administrator in the physical
therapist education programs at Slippery Rock University
and Indiana University prior to coming to the University of
Indianapolis. Her research has focused upon the identification,
care, and prevention of sports-related injuries in
nationally competing older athletes. Dr. McCloy is
nationally recognized for her expertise in the areas of
Health Promotion and Wellness as it relates to physical
therapy practice, having published articles and taught
several courses related to these topics. She has also served
on committees for the APTA and the Section on Geriatrics
to delineate the roles of physical therapists in health
promotion. Dr. McCloy is a member of the APTA, the
National Athletic Trainers Association, and the National
Wellness Association. Her major clinical interests are in the
rehabilitation of older adults, health promotion programs
for older adults, and sports medicine.

ELLEN WINCHELL MILLER

Ellen Miller is an Associate Professor
with a joint appointment in the Krannert School of Physical Therapy
and the Center on Aging and Community. Her doctoral studies focused
on Motor Control and Gerontology. She teaches in the areas of lifespan
motor development, neurological rehabilitation, and geriatrics in
the professional program and the core Neurological track course,
Case Reports and Single System Experiments and Research in the postprofessional
program. She is currently supervising and conducting research related
to fitness in the elderly, has presented her findings at the APTA
Annual Conference and Combined Sections and had published several
articles in peer-reviewed journals. Dr. Miller is a member of the
American Physical Therapy Association and the Sections on Neurology,
Education and Geriatrics, as well as the National Council on Aging.
She is the Chair of the Advisory Board for the Southport Adult Day
Center and provides clinical education opportunities for students
at that site. She is a peer reviewer for Journal of Geriatric Physical
Therapy, the publication for the Section on Geriatrics. Dr. Miller
has presented continuing education seminars throughout the country
and has participated in an interdisciplinary rehabilitation seminar
in Guatemala. Her clinical interests include the rehabilitation
of geriatric and neurologically involved patients.

PETER RUNDQUIST

Peter Rundquist is an Assistant Professor, Director of Postprofessional Programs, and Chair of the Krannert School of Physical Therapy. His doctoral studies
focused on scapulohumeral kinematics in subjects with idiopathic
loss of shoulder range of motion. Dr. Rundquist teaches in the area
of musculoskeletal physical therapy practice. His clinical interests
include the examination and treatment of patients with shoulder
and spine dysfunction. Dr. Rundquist has delivered invited platform
and poster presentations on shoulder function to national audiences.
He has published papers on shoulder kinematics and kinetics and
hand function recovery long-term post-stroke. He is a manuscript
reviewer for the Journal of Orthopedic and Sports Physical Therapy
and is a member of the Orthopedic section of the American Physical
Therapy Association.

MARY ANN SHURIG

Mary Ann Shurig is an Assistant Professor
in the Krannert School of Physical Therapy where she teaches in
the Physical Therapist Assistant Program. She is also a Certified
Athletic Trainer. Ms. Shurig is on the clinical staff at Indiana
University Hospital, Clarian Health Partners. Prior to her recent
appointment at the University of Indianapolis, Mary Ann was Director
of the Ladies Professional Golf Association Fitness Van for three
years followed by seven years as a faculty member at the Indiana
University Physical Therapy Program. She has been an invited speaker
on the topic of Soft Tissue Mobilization and Myofascial Release
to three National Athletic Trainers Association National Conference,
to the Korean Physical Therapy Association Manual Therapy Association
and the Korean Physical Therapy National Conference. She is a member
of the American Physical Therapy Association Orthopedic Section.
Her major clinical interest is in the areas of orthopedics, manual
therapy and chronic pain.

Bill Staples is an Assistant Professor.
He was named to the Specialist Academy of Content Experts and to
the Geriatric Specialty Council. Staples is chair of the American
Board of Physical Therapy Specialists and is also on the Board of
Directors, Geriatric Section, of APTA. Teaching experience includes
associate faculty in the PTA program at Ivy Tech State College,
where he received the outstanding faculty award. Bill has lectured
nationally regarding reimbursement and Medicare rules and regulations
and remains a consultant to local and national therapy corporations.
He maintains his clinical skills providing home health care with
major clinical interests in the areas of balance and falls, care
of the frail elderly, and osteoporosis. The APTA, Section on Geriatrics
awarded Bill the 2006 Distinguished Educator Award for Setting an
Exceptional Example as an Educator. |
