The Krannert School of Physical Therapy has shown a pattern of growth and innovation during its history. Highlights include:

1979

Department of Physical Therapy founded at the University of Indianapolis with a grant from the Krannert Charitable Trust.

1982

Professional Professional Program in Physical Therapy, awarding the Master of Science in Physical Therapy, initially accredited by the Commission on Accreditation in Physical Therapy Education of the American Physical Therapy Association; first class of 18 students graduate in December 1982.

1985

Postprofessional Master of Science (MS) and Master of Health Science (MHS) degrees in physical therapy added, using an innovative weekend model permitting enrollment of students from across North America.
        Developmental Preschool was initiated to serve the therapy needs of children with disabilities, while providing a clinical teaching site to serve the needs of students within our academic programs.

1986

Department of Physical Therapy renamed Krannert School of Physical Therapy to recognize an additional gift from the Krannert Charitable Trust.

1989

1st Annual Clinical Update offered, a continuing education course designed to serve the needs of practitioners who want an update of general skills to prepare them to change practice settings or return to practice after a hiatus.

1994

PTA program developed.

1995

PTA program received initial accreditation from the Commission on Accreditation in Physical Therapy Education of the APTA.

1997

An association between the Krannert School of Physical Therapy and the Southport Adult Day Center, an outreach ministry of the Southport Presbyterian Church formed to provide service to clients of the center and to develop clinical learning opportunities in geriatrics for students within the Krannert School of Physical Therapy.

1998

Postprofessional doctoral program initiated.

1999

The Krannert School of Physical Therapy, School of Occupational Therapy, and the School of Nursing moved into Martin Hall, the newly-constructed health sciences building.

2002

Professional Doctor of Physical Therapy program began, replacing the Professional Master of Science program.

2003

Last Professional Master of Physical Therapy class graduated.

2005

First Professional Doctor of Physical Therapy class graduated. The Krannert School of Physical Therapy serves more than 500 degree-seeking students each year (approximately 50 PTA, 135 DPT, and more than 300 in postprofessional programs).

2007

Dean of Health Sciences hired for Krannert School of Physical Therapy and School of Occupational Therapy.
College of Health Sciences formed.
