Orthopedic Residency

The University of Indianapolis/Body One Physical Therapy Orthopedic Residency Program is accepting applications for its incoming class. We have one resident who has successfully completed the program. We hope to apply for APTA credentialing during this year.

Mission Statement
The program promotes excellence, professionalism, and integrity in advanced practice and prepares graduates who have expert knowledge and skills in orthopaedics for autonomous practice and leadership roles within the profession.

Program Goals
1. Prepare residents for expert orthopaedic practice as defined by the American Physical Therapy Association (APTA) in Orthopaedic Physical Therapy: Description of Advanced Clinical Practice.
2. Challenge residents to become independent, self-motivated learners through rigorous academic and clinical components of the curriculum.
3. Integrate basic science knowledge with management of patients with orthopedics conditions.
4. Expose residents to a variety of learning experiences surrounding orthopaedic medicine including, but not limited to, radiology, rheumatology, orthopaedic surgery, and family practice.

Curriculum Organization/Sequencing
The overall sequencing rationale is to divide the didactic and clinical information into upper (cervical spine through hand) and lower (lumbar spine through foot) quarters. The goal is to have the resident complete 1 didactic course each month. The clinical component is ongoing.

Instructional Methods
One year is allowed for completion of the curriculum. As some residents will transfer in credit(s) into the curriculum, the amount of coursework they must complete during the year will be somewhat variable.

Eligibility Requirements
1. Hold a valid Indiana Physical Therapy License
2. Comply with all University of Indianapolis employment requirements

Desirable Applicants
1. Possess strong fundamentals in the principles of clinical reasoning and the application of manual examination and treatment procedures.
2. Possess superior verbal and written communication skills.

Superior candidates will be selected for an interview and evaluation of basic clinical competencies with members of the selection committee.
