Academic Bankruptcy

Students entering college sometimes perform at an unacceptable academic level. Some individuals with this experience re-evaluate their educational goals and desire to return to college. Their academic record, however, may present an insurmountable obstacle.

Applicants to the Physical Therapist Assistant program in this category who want the opportunity for a fresh start may apply for admission with the request that their prior academic record be disregarded using this academic bankruptcy policy.

An applicant may request academic bankruptcy upon meeting these conditions:

1. The applicant must complete the Academic Bankruptcy Petition.

2. At least 7 years must have elapsed since the end of the semester(s) for which the applicant is requesting bankruptcy.

3. At the time of the request, the applicant must have completed at least 12 credits within the last 2 years of the general education required for the PTA program at any accredited university with a GPA of 3.0 or higher.

Notes on Approval

1. No course credits earned in the semester(s) for which bankruptcy is given will be considered in the application process or for transfer credit.

2. Academic bankruptcy has no bearing whatsoever on the financial obligations associated with the courses approved for bankruptcy.
